Boxeadoras Mexicanas
A Tribute to Strength, Beauty, and the Women Redefining Mexican Boxing
"Boxeadoras Mexicanas" is an ongoing medium-format film series that documents the rise of Mexico’s top amateur and professional women boxers. Shot entirely on 120 film, the project explores not only the physical power of these athletes, but also the grace, vulnerability, and beauty they carry into, and outside, the ring.
At its core, this is a story about identity. These women are daughters, sisters, mothers, and fighters in and out of the gym. Through intimate studio portraits, family scenes at home, and moments captured in their neighborhoods, the series aims to reveal the full spectrum of who they are: not just as boxers, but as complete individuals navigating a male-dominated sport and society.
"Boxeadoras Mexicanas" also embraces a fashion-forward lens, capturing the personal style and self-expression of these athletes from hand-painted gloves and manicured hands to braided hair and gym fits that blur the line between sport and beauty. The goal is to celebrate a more expansive view of femininity, one rooted in resilience, cultural pride, and unapologetic individuality.
This project is a tribute to the powerful Mexican women in my life. Mi abuelita and mi madre, and to the new generation of women who are transforming boxing, and womanhood, on their own terms.
